Business Marketing Student, James Cotter views his placement year in the Marketing Team

For the past 12 months, Harper Adams student, James Cotter has been working in the Marketing department as part of his 'Business Marketing with Management' degree.
James writes "Since my first day of placement, I was made to feel like an important member of the marketing team being included in meetings to discuss the direction of KRONE UK's marketing strategies".
"My main project this year has been organising and running a charity raffle to celebrate 40 years of KRONE round balers. I was given the freedom to explore different ideas for the project and was involved from the planning stages right through to the execution which has greatly improved my project management and problem solving skills. Working on the raffle has allowed me to gain valuable experience in many different types of marketing methods ranging from licensing to events to creating adverts to magazines".
"I also enjoyed working alongside two major UK charities, knowing that my work was benefiting the UK farming community gave me a huge sense of satisfaction. This project gave me the opportunity to travel throughout the UK, visiting dealers and attending trade shows with both KRONE and the charities, this has helped me develop my communication and relationship building skills which will benefit me in my future career."
"Overall, I got more out of my time at KRONE UK than I could have expected, the placement year has been a valuable chance for me to put what I have learnt into practice".
German Intern, Evan Albrink reviews his 6 month placement at KRONE UK
German Intern, Evan Albrink reviews his 6 month placement at KRONE UK

KRONE UK gave me the chance to experience a working company first hand. I worked at KRONE UK for a total of 6 months as an intern, originating from Germany. As this was my first step into the working world, I really appreciated this opportunity to gather many valuable insights into all the different departments here helping me with my career choices.
Working at Krone also greatly increased my English skills and improved my understanding of the English culture and people. My colleagues always made me feel welcome and helped me when I was struggling with English or other tasks and helped me to fulfil everything without any problems.
My role here was to be part of the marketing team, consisting of 4 people. I was responsible for many adverts and posts on social media and learnt how to use design programmes such as Adobe Photoshop and InDesign. I was also involved in planning our stands at large events such as LAMMA 17 and worked at the show allowing me to meet our customers and those working in the agricultural industry.
The pure variety of tasks I had helped me to decide what I wanted or didn’t want to do in the future. After working on the company branding and graphic design, I am now looking to start a career as a graphic designer working within the agricultural industry. This is a role I enjoyed doing at KRONE UK and something I didn’t get much experience of at school.
Concluding my past few months here, I would definitely recommend applying for a placement here. It gave me a unique insight into different departments, experience for my future career and constant support behind my back.
Marketing Coordinator, Leah Holden says ‘It’s been great having Evan on the team, he has a creative eye and picked up our company branding quickly allowing him to be a vital member of the team ensuring our messaging is portrayed on social media in the best possible way. We will be sad to see him go but we hope this experience has helped him and wish him all the best for the future”.

Key Roles

- Playing a major role in developing and introducing a CRM system into the company
- Researching competitor information to help KRONE UK stay ahead of the game
"My time at KRONE UK has been widely varied giving me a fantastic insight into working life. Over the course of the year, I have worked with a variety of departments on different projects, including launching and implementing a new CRM system within the company. Within this project, I was able to develop my business management and marketing skills to help adapt the system to the company's requirements, deliver training to colleagues within the company and offer support once the system was in place. Following projects from the planning stages to execution has given me a huge sense of satisfaction.
As this was my first time working in an office environment, it was quite new to me having previously worked mainly in hands-on roles, but the close-knit team were supportive allowing me to work comfortably giving me as much support as was needed. Working within the marketing team gave me an opportunity to travel throughout the UK, visiting dealers and attending trade shows and events developing my communication and relationship building skills which can be built upon in the future.
Working at KRONE helped me extend on the knowledge I had learnt at university and has given me a clearer insight into the field I’d like to go into in the future. I’d highly recommend completing a placement whilst studying at university as I feel it has better equipped me for future life and given me a greater focus for my final year."
